How Tasman Oil Tools collects, uses, discloses and protects your personal information.
Tasman Oil Tools Pty Ltd (ABN 33 008 922 058) (“Tasman”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting the privacy of the personal information we collect and handle. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information, and how you can access or correct it.
We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), and — where applicable to our New Zealand operations — the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
This policy applies to information collected through our website (tasmanoiltools.com), as well as through our dealings with customers, suppliers and contractors. Personal information collected from job applicants is addressed separately, in Tasman’s Employee and Candidate Privacy Notice.
1. What personal information we collect
The personal information we collect depends on your dealings with us. It may include:
- Contact and identity details — name, job title, company, email address, phone number, postal/business address.
- Commercial information — purchase orders, rental agreements, account and billing details, and correspondence relating to our products and services.
- Website and technical data — IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and other analytics data collected via cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5).
We generally do not collect sensitive information (such as health, racial or religious information). Where it may arise — for example, drug and alcohol testing or fitness-for-work checks required for site inductions at Tasman or customer worksites — we will only collect it with your consent or where permitted by law, and will apply additional safeguards consistent with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
2. How we collect personal information
We collect personal information:
- directly from you — when you contact us, request a quote, enter into an agreement, fill out a form on our website, or correspond with us by phone or email;
- automatically — when you use our website (via cookies and analytics);
- from third parties — such as referees, business partners, or publicly available sources, where relevant to our dealings with you.
Where it is reasonable and practicable, we will collect personal information directly from you.
3. Why we collect and use your personal information
We collect, hold and use personal information to:
- provide our oilfield equipment rental and wellsite services;
- process orders, rentals, quotes and payments;
- respond to your enquiries and provide customer support;
- manage our business relationships with customers, suppliers and contractors;
- send you service-related or marketing communications (see Section 8);
- improve our website and services; and
- comply with our legal and regulatory obligations.
4. Disclosure of personal information
We may disclose your personal information to:
- our employees and related entities who need it to perform their roles;
- third-party service providers (for example, IT and hosting providers, payment processors, marketing and analytics platforms);
- professional advisers such as lawyers, accountants and insurers; and
- government or regulatory bodies where required or authorised by law.
We only share personal information with a third party where: (i) there is a lawful basis for doing so; (ii) the disclosure is consistent with this Privacy Policy; and (iii) the third party has agreed to appropriate data security and confidentiality obligations.
We do not sell your personal information.
5. Cookies and website analytics
Our website uses cookies and similar technologies to operate effectively and to understand how visitors use it. We use Google Analytics and Google Search Console to collect anonymised usage data such as pages viewed and time on site.
You can disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of the website may not function properly as a result. For more information on how Google handles data, see Google’s Privacy Policy.
6. Overseas disclosure
Some of our service providers (for example, cloud hosting and analytics providers) may store or process data on servers located outside Australia.
Because we operate across Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific, your information may also be shared between our offices in these locations where necessary to provide our services.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that overseas recipients handle your personal information consistently with applicable privacy law.
7. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These steps include secure storage, access controls, and staff training. However, no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary, having regard to our legal and contractual obligations, the sensitivity and purpose of the information, and the potential risk of harm from unauthorised access or use. When personal information is no longer needed for these purposes, we take reasonable steps to destroy or de-identify it, unless we are required to retain it by law.
8. Direct marketing and opt-out
We may send you marketing communications about our products and services where you would reasonably expect to receive them or where you have consented. Every marketing email will include an option to unsubscribe. You can also opt out at any time by contacting us using the details below.
9. Accessing and correcting your information
You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 13. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
10. What happens if you don’t provide your information
In most cases, there is no obligation to provide us with personal information. However, if you choose not to provide information we reasonably need, we may not be able to enter into or perform a contract with you, respond to your enquiry, or provide the products or services you are seeking.
11. Automated decision-making
Tasman does not currently use automated or AI-assisted systems to make decisions about a customer, supplier or applicant without human review (for example, automated credit assessments or automatic rejection of quotes). If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required by law, notify affected individuals of any relevant rights.
12. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be available on our website, and the “last updated” date below indicates when it was last revised.
13. Contact us
If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy or how we handle your personal information, please contact us.
